Short Story: A Dream of a Dream

I was in a dark place. I didn't know where I was. It was an unfamiliar place to me, though there was this feeling inside me that's saying that I have been here before. There was nowhere to go, nowhere to hide. I heard a faint sound of rustling leaves. Or were they the sound of fleeting flowers in the breeze?

"Where am I?" I thought to myself.

I walked and walked in this dark place and finally, I saw a light.

And that's when I saw him.

He was sitting there, on a wooden bench under a cherry blossom tree. I saw him looking up at the night sky filled with stars and petals dancing along the breeze. I wanted to see more of him, so I walked towards him slowly and discreetly. Unfortunately, I accidentally stepped on a twig and it snapped.

He looked back, trying to figure who it was that caused that noise. To his surprise, he saw me and smiled as if he was pleased to see me. His face was unclear whenever I recall this moment, but my heart tells me that he was beautiful, for his smile made me feel a certain warmth and security within me. I opened my mouth to say something, but no sound came out. I instinctively covered my mouth with my hands. My face started to feel warm. I guess I was blushing.

"Why can't I speak?" I thought to myself.

I looked at him with a puzzled face, thinking that he might know the reason as to why I can't speak or even make a sound. Instead, he put his hand to the space beside him, inviting me to sit with him. Unsure of what I should do, I slowly walked towards him and I sat alongside him. We sat beside each other and both watched the night sky. I looked at him whether he will provide me with a hint of what is happening.

"Is there something important that I should know? What's going on right now? Is this even real?" I asked myself.

Realizing that he shows no hint of answers to the questions that I'm seeking, I looked back at the star-filled night sky. The cherry blossoms looked beautiful that night. It was the perfect spring weather. It was the most perfect scenery. I couldn't take my eyes off of it. It seemed like it was just a wallpaper, but no. It was there. I could feel my long brown hair, freely flowing from the warm breeze.

All of a sudden, I realized that he was looking at me. Looking at me with such passion, such intensity.

"Who is this guy?" I thought.

I tried saying something once more, but nothing came out. His fingers touched my lips. My lips felt like it melted from his touch. I blushed. I couldn't face him with my face like that, so I turned and looked away. I felt hot inside and I felt butterflies inside my stomach. This feeling is strange. I touched my cheeks with both of my hands. I couldn't stand to face someone I don't completely know, yet I felt a certain reassurance just by being with him.

"What is going on with me?"

He held onto my hands and gently uncovered my blushing face. He looked at me with such strong affection. I blushed once more. I turned and tried avoiding from looking at his eyes, but they were still fixed on mine. I looked at him, eye to eye. He held on to my face like I was something delicate that should be handled with extreme care. I couldn't remember how he looked like. It was unclear. I don't know why. He leaned in closer. Close until I could feel his warmth. And then...

And then...

I woke up.
